CONGRATULATIONS: NANA AKUFO-ADDO & THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY

NPP Presidential Candidate 2008

NPP Australia congratulates our mother NPP for a successful Delegates Congress and the choice of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as presidential candidate. It is said that great nations are not shaped by their natural resources and external circumstances alone; the goals and choices set by statesmen are paramount. Thank you NPP for giving us a visionary statesman and would be President in Nana Akufo-Addo.

The transparency of procedures at the congress strengthens the destiny of freedom, democracy and the rule of law in Ghana. The free world applauds you. Nascent democracies admire you.

Our party was founded sixty years ago and has functioned under several names and banners, depending on the nation’s political dispensation, but our focus on liberal democracy and values has never been compromised.

During this period different distinguished Ghanaians have steered the party in government or in opposition. Because of the fertility of ideas in the party, all our leaders have reached the zenith of the party after vigorous competition. Inevitably, the passion to lead could strain the bond of friendship and affection within the party but never has the bond been punctured or broken.

All our past leaders have faced the challenges and risks of their time, and generally have triumphed. Besides the immediate task of building on the economic success of the Kufour administration, Nana Akufo-Addo would face a temperamental world with many discouraging vicissitudes. For him to succeed requires our unflinching support. Ghanaians can no longer continue to look to the industrial nations for ceaseless flow of foreign aid and other solutions to our problems. We must be prepared to contribute our widow’s mite to complement the untiring efforts of our would-be president.

In general most people would contribute to a worthy cause if assured that that cause will be pursued after they have contributed. In Nana Akufo-Addo, the world believes that this assurance is not negotiable. The world knows Nana Akufo-Addo as a selfless leader with many ideas of national interest and the ability to articulate those ideas.

Nana, we see you as a leader who is able to bridge the yawning gap between your vision and our experiences. We trust that you will keep our hopes and aspirations alive. In return, we pay you nothing but eternal remembrance. May your fellow compatriots accord you and the New Patriotic Party the privilege of leading Ghana to the land of prosperity.

NPP Australia salutes you, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Long Live the New Patriotic Party! Long live freedom and democracy in Ghana.
